I did a search and it appears this is a common problem, I have no idea what the setup has to be to have windows populate the dropdown with Cuda but it is not there for the RX580 or the Intel GPU on my machine. In addition, my dropdown menu for what to display does not even include Cuda as a choice. Seems like A BUG in task manager prevents it from displaying the correct usage on the AMD GPU. I used GPU-Z to check and yes the RX580 is being used. Ok, you are right about the GPU but dead wrong about me being lazy, don't know why you have to do that! It's not using much of the 3d engine that much is true. I would not disagree with you that it is slow and inefficient compared to other denoisers, but then you go on to say it's because it's not using the GPU, which it is. I dont' have an AMD, but considering we get similar performance and your encoding is not dramatically slower I would say it is using a different engine, you're just too lazy to find out what it is. When using denoise for an encode, task manager shows 1-2% CPU usage, 10-15% Memory usage, 1-3% for the RX580 (main display GPU) Task manager shows the complete usage of the device on the left hand side.Īs I have told you twice, render using denoise, and go through the various gpu engines to check of the GPU activity I have shown. If I try a GPU accelerated render (either Intel or AMD) it gets slightly faster 7-8 minutes but again the usage is almost nothing with the usage for the GPU selected maybe increasing 1%.Īm I missing something? Is there a secret switch somewhere to make this work? Why isn't it using resources and rendering faster?Īs I specified in the original post, I have 2 GPUs enabled, The built-in Intel UHD 630 and an AMD Rx580. So, it's not using any resources - what is it doing? During the render if I pull up task manager I see usages of - CPU: 2%, Memory: 10%, Disks: 0-1%, Intel GPU: 0-1%, RX 580: 0-1%. The same render that took 14 secs before now takes almost 10 minutes - for a 10 sec clip! The only difference is the Denoise Video FX added to the clip!!! Add the denoise plug-in to the clip (lum- 1.5, chrom - 3.0, sharp - 0).

Clip takes about 14 seconds to render using MainConcept (software only) to a 1080/8Mbps mp4 file. I've tried a few different usages with the same result, he's a sample. Machine is an i7-8700K (6 core), 32GB, all fast NVMe SSDs, Built-in Intel UHD 630 + Radeon RX 580 - both enabled.

I was debating buying Neat but decided to upgrade instead - big mistake! This new Vegas Denoise is really way too slow to be of any use in normal video editing! But for normal everyday exposed shots I though Neat Video was okay, so for everything else in my film I used the built-in denoiser in Resolve.I just upgraded from 17 to 18 mainly because I saw the new Denoise plug-in. I used it on my film for about three or four shots which were right on the razor's edge of being unusable and I was astonished how well I was able to recover them. For $99 it's a steal and should be used as a surgical tool when you really need it. You need to tweak the settings with a light hand but the results can really save some seriously dodgy shots. However, I did buy the Neat Video plugin which delivers a surprisingly powerhouse noise reduction for low light situations.

Especially in light of the fact that Davinci Resolve is free and their built-in denoiser has gotten pretty damn good, especially if you learn how to use it (This is where a tutorial can really help you out). I ran a bunch of tests for my film and came away thinking Denoiser III was way over-priced. Learn about more our flair and how to get your own here.
